FOUR WORKS BY MIQUEL BRUNET IN THE ARTISTIC FUND OF THE UNIVERSITAT DE LES ILLES BALEARS

FOUR WORKS BY MIQUEL BRUNET IN THE ARTISTIC FUND OF THE UNIVERSITAT DE LES ILLES BALEARS

An oil on wood measuring 45 x 37 cm and three portraits of mixed technique on paper measuring 21 x 17 cm are part of the important artistic collection of the Universitat de les Illes Balears which includes, among others, works by Juli Ramis, Ramon Canet, Maria Carbonero or Rafel Joan.

The oil painting is described on the UIB website as a “still life with a dense brushstroke, very fast, that captures the moment and everyday life. The result is a warm, serene and intimate work. This work can be included in the period between 1965 and 1975, its second stage, characterized by some more figurative paintings, of a rural character (roads, trees in a flat landscape, carved…) in very wide and contrasted games of colors, in a narrow range of ocher, green, caldera and gray colors”.

In relation to the pieces on paper it is said that “the three works are testimony to the mastery that Miquel Brunet achieved in watercolour. However, the theme is rare in the context of his work, more profuse in the landscape, the human figure, the horse and the still life. After all, the three portraits seem like technical exercises for recreations of the artist’s dream universe”.
